Day 2 of the 5th Round of Chemo

We are back in the hospital for the 5th round of chemotherapy. Andrea was admitted yesterday and had a fairly good day. Yesterday, she has a spinal tap. A spinal tap checks her spinal fluid for signs of cancer and introduces chemo drugs into her central nervous system. It involves a fairly large needle in her spine. It was painful, but Andrea, as always, handled it very well. The results also should be positive.

Later yesterday, her chemo drugs were started intravenously. The big side effect with these drugs is fevers which cause migrane headaches which cause nausea. Fortunately, last night she did not have any fevers, no headaches, and no nausea. She slept right through the drugs being administered. Her next chemo will not start until 6pm today. So, we are just going to take it easy for most of the day, play some music, and try and stay upbeat. Andrea's goal for this admission was to stay upbeat as much as possible and have as much fun in the hospital as possible. So far she is doing a great job.

Hi, Andrea. I finally managed to get on your blog. I have been trying for weeks, but to no avail. I am so glad that this should be your last round of chemo-what a journey this has been. My thoughts have been with you every day. You have (and are) such a beautiful spirit!

Andrea - Are you finally done with all those nasty chemo treatments? - I hope so, it was a long trial for you - but you did it! Keep upbeat and soon this will all be a blur in the past.
You have wonderful parents, in-laws and husband who have been with you thru this. Cherish them.
We miss you here at work very much - I can't believe its been almost 3 months - it seems like forever. Thinking of you always........Coleen

I'm so happy that things are going well right now. I hope your nausea and migraines stay away. James is coming home this weekend to celebrate his birthday. We won't do it Sharon Taylor-style, but I hope he still enjoys it.
Have a great day!
Love,
Aunt Karen

Hi Andrea...I'm so glad you had a lovely time at home to strengthen you for this next bout of chemo. It seems like the good days are more frequent now, and I'm confident it will continue that way. I was down in Brown County with my Mom this past wkend. I try to spend a weekend every month with her. Mom will be 80 yrs old in a couple of weeks and I cherish every minute with her. She adopted a dog this weekend from a rescue facility. It's a Puggle...part pug, part beagle, and looks like a miniature boxer. She named her Maggie and the two of them act like they were meant for each other. It's great! I keep having dreams about Sharon....we're usually back at Winona....(I'll start singing "Memories" from CATS). Gosh, who knew when I started working there that I'd find a husband and a cherished friend! I'm looking forward to more good reports from the Dr.'s/your family, friends, etc. Kathleen, what a wonderful sister you are. Andrea, you are so blessed, because you've been such a blessing to others!

Love to all, Lisa
